Lead Paper Presenter (2)– Entrepreneurship, Innovation Ecosystems, and Inclusive Economic Growth. She is a Professor of Educational Technology at the Department of Curriculum Studies and Educational Technology, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She majors in Instructional Design and Technology with special interest in the application of Artificial Intelligence in Education and Research. She attended the University of Port Harcourt, where she obtained B.Sc.(ed.) in Economics and was awarded the Best Graduating Student of her Department. She obtained the Master of Education degree and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Educational Technology, from the Department of Curriculum Studies and Educational Technology, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. In 2016 she obtained a certificate in Instructional Design from the African Virtual University, Nairobi, Kenya. She was employed as a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt in November 2007 where she rose to the rank of Professor.
She has served in different capacities in the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, some of which include: 1. Acting Director, Center for Medical Research and Training (CENMERT) 2. Member, Regional Strategic Planning Committee. 3. Member, International Accreditation Committee of the African Center of Excellence in Public Health and Toxicology Research (ACE-PUTOR), 4. Instructional Designer, University of Port Harcourt, Open and Distance eLearning (ODeL) Center, 5. Curriculum Developer, Center for Medical Research and Training, 6. Member, Tech Girls bootcamp Committee, just to mention few. She is currently the Chairman, of the Graduate Studies Committee for the Center for Medical Research and Training (CENMERT); and a member of the AI Award/policy framework Committee. She has supervised over 70 undergraduate projects, 30 masters’ dissertations and 10 PhD theses. She has published over 80 articles in reputable National and International journals and has received several awards for her distinguished role in promoting AI in healthcare, education and research. She also owns a copyright of an Inmates Digital Enterprise Development Project.
Outside the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Esther F. Fomsi has served as an examination invigilator for Cambridge International College (CIC) UK. She has also collaborated with the African Virtual University (AVU), Nairobi, Kenya where she served as: 1. e-Tutor in the Teacher Education Basic ICT skills certificate programme, 2. Module Developer/Reviewer on ICT Basic Skills in English, and; 3. Resource Person: Curriculum Mapping and Harmonization workshop. She is currently the South-South Ambassador for the IWD 2025 Global Techathon organized by Teens in AI – an organization launched at the United Nations AI for Good Global Summit in 2018.
She is a member of several professional bodies such as: Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI), Educational Media and Technology Association of Nigeria (EMTAN), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Curriculum Organization of Nigeria (CON), just to mention few. She has facilitated several workshops on Artificial Intelligence in education and research. She is an educational consultant, a seasoned teacher, researcher, human resource developer, e-learning expert, and media specialist. Outside of work, she is passionate about cooking, family recreation, and social work. She is happily married with two children.
